Office parties, turkey one-upmanship, nativity plays, carol singing—the very traditions that define the season, make us want to adopt the foetal position or, at the very least, some help on the sly.
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that time and space collapse between December
1st and January 6th. Timetables implode, calendars melt and come the twelfth day of sleep deprivation, you’ll be bargaining with God for a miracle to stop the ten drummers drumming in your head.
Office parties, turkey one-upmanship, nativity plays, carol singing—the very traditions that define the season, make us want to adopt the foetal position or, at the very least, some help on the sly.
Granted, I’m of no use to you with sewing six shepherd costumes for the school play. You don’t need a trip to the A&E when I impale my finger. I can, however, suggest a few quick fixes I rely on to put the promise back in compromise when life feels a bit much.

Peanut Butter & Chia Seed Cookies
Let’s face it. Sometimes breakfast feels like a ‘nice to have’ rather than a necessity. A missed bowl of Bran Flakes isn’t going to contribute to your physiological demise. Over several weeks, however, your plunging energy levels could determine otherwise.
Think of the long game but with a shortcut, like these ridiculously easy-to-make peanut butter and chia seed cookies. Simply bung the peanut butter and honey into a bowl for 40 seconds in the microwave. Add oats and chia seeds. Stir. Roll into balls. Place these onto a lined baking sheet and flatten with the flat, pronged side of a fork. Put into the fridge until hard. Done.
Small oven fire and couples’ counselling avoided. Plus, it’s a legit breakfast. Grab two on your way out the door and call yourself a legend.
